Chi Zhang

Piano Instructor

Born and raised in China, Ms. Chi Zhang is pursuing her Doctoral degree of Musical Arts in Moores School of Music in the University of Houston. In the Spring of 2022, Chi graduated with master’s degree of music, majoring in piano performance under the supervision of Dr. Laura Spitzer. Chi began to play piano at age five and has received numerous piano awards, such as Golden Prize of Beijing Art Festival Piano Competition in youth group (2011), the Third PP Award of the Third Hong Kong International Piano Competition in youth group (2012), and Silver Prize of the first Yamaha National Piano Competition in youth group (2013). Chi holds a B.A. in music education from Capital Normal University, Beijing, China. While an undergraduate student in China, she was awarded the Class Scholarship and Overseas Scholarship from Capital Normal University for outstanding academic performance. Chi decided to pursue further music education abroad after she traveled to the U.S. and attended several performances in 2014. She entered NMSU as an undergraduate student in fall 2016, then began work on a Master of Music degree specialized in piano performance in fall 2018. Chi graduated in the spring of 2020 from NMSU and then she entered Moores School of Music in the University of Houston to pursue a Master of Music degree specialized in collaborative piano in the fall of 2020. While her concentration is on classical piano repertoire, Chi is also interested in jazz piano, and she has been participated in multiple jazz concerts. Ms. Chi is teaching keyboard class for undergraduate students in UH and all ages of students at Vivo Professional Music School. Ms. Chi is a very passionate piano teacher and enjoy her students showing love and hard work in the music field.
